Egyptian rababah - A two-stringed instrument from Egypt, with a long cylindrical neck, and small body, made from a gourd or a coconut. It is held upright (a spike protrudes from the body and sticks into the ground) when bowed.
Serbian gusle - A small one-stringed instrument, used to accompany Balkan epic songs. It is lute-shaped, and often carved from a single piece of wood. The neck often ends in a carved animal head, especially a horse.
Afghan ghichak - A three or four-stringed fiddle with a square-shaped body. Like the rababah, it is held upright when played.
