Over the years, Tim has allegedly played a number of other instruments not included
in the lists above. He won't necessarily admit to this, but there are persitant rumors...
Electric Guitar - An electric version of the guitar, which itself derives from the
Arabic 'ud and the medieval citole and gittern. Apparently, Tim used to play heavy metal guitar
during his teenage years, hence the hair, which is still hanging around (literally).
Acoustic Guitar - An acoustic version of the electric guitar, er, something like that. He has completed
writing material for an acoustic guitar album, which he will record later this year.
Electric bass - Like an electric guitar, but with everything an octave down. This instrument came from the stand-up jazz bass, which was also the double bass of the orchestra, which derived from the violin,
which derived from the medieval fiddle, which probably derived from the rababa, which may have derived from the Iranian kemanche, etc., etc.
Drum kit - Tim plays this badly. He doesn't like it. It hurts his hands. He can't handle
this instrument. It derives from many medieval stick drums, which probably derive from the davul.
Harpsichord - Renaissance and Baroque version of the psaltery. Tim used to focus on this
repertoire, until he got seduced by even earlier music and it never let him go!
Piano - Classical and modern version of the psaltery. Tim never got too good on this, but has
been known to attempt a jazz tune once in a while.
Electric Keyboard - Electric, digitized version of the psaltery. Used for everything from progressive rock
to pop music. Tim's not telling if he's ever played any of that!
Digeridoo - Probably mispelled. One of the oldest instruments on earth. Most often associated with
the Australian Aborigines, whose culture dates back at least 40,000 years (talk about early music!) Versions
of it have also shown up in Celtic archeological sites in Ireland (Tim is not making this up!).
Native American Flute - This produces a hauntingly beautiful sound. Tim wants to learn to play this instrument better.
Recorder - The less said about Tim's efforts here, the better!
At various times, and at great risk to others, Tim has also attempted:
The results were not pretty.
